Community Participation and Social Activities

Sunrise NDIS Care aims to help people with special needs to “get life ready“. Our range of social and recreational programs are focused on empowering people to live life the way they choose. Feeling connected to the community you live in is important for us all as social citizens.

Our Home & Community Living teams are committed to ensuring we offer personalised supports that can best meet the changing needs of our participants. We take the time to get to know each person; their strengths, skills and interests to ensure we can offer holistic, outcomes focused support.

The approach we take includes:

  • Identifying and understanding your hobbies and interests
  • Exploring your creative side through music, dance, drama or cooking programs
  • Supporting you to spend time with old friends, or make new ones through social activities at our centres, or in local clubs and community groups
  • Encouraging you to try new things and experiences which might include arts & craft, technology or fitness activities
  • Supporting you independently or as part of a group

Sunrise runs number of social day programs across region based allied centres. These centres are tailored spaces to meet the particular needs of different participant groups, where participants come together while improving their social and practical skills. Participants also make new friends, support each other, feel connected and included.

Participants also attend group and individual outings, visit their places of interest or discover new places, enhance their social experiences, break down their social isolation as part of centre’s social programs.

Participants are very proud of the different products they make in art and craft class, such as presents to their loved ones, truly enjoy music classes and spend time in the music room and participate in various public performances.

Cooking classes are the fun days for not only participants but also for the staff members as participant likes to share and offers their cooking.

We can support you if you are an NDIS participant with approved funding on your plan in one of the following areas:

  • Under Capacity Building Supports – ‘Assistance with Social and Community Participation
  • Under Core Supports – ‘Community and Social Activity’ or ‘Improved Daily Living Skills’

Our region-based fun activity programs are for groups and individuals. For more information or to join, call 07 5570 2264.
